I am a big supporter of new technology but in this case I feel that moral concerns “rules” if you will on how to use it should have been clearly developed and standardized prior to the release of this technology. Recently, Adobe has incorporated AI technologies into Photoshop to help automate certain tasks and streamline workflows. I installed the latest Beta Version of Photoshop with Generative Fill.Īdobe Photoshop is the editing tool that has been used by professionals for years. That was supposed to apply to showing a smartphone to a cave man, it was just inconceivable. There is a saying in technology that the most sophisticated technology to someone unfamiliar with it is like magic. You couldn't grow a baby in the time this thing was brought to market. This entire technology is built on a base less than 6 months old. Remember, your human brain thinks in time cycles that are not relevant here. BUT, if you want to drive vision and outcomes and have been restricted by technical ability, you're in for a huge burst in capability. What this means for the labor market (ie, your #job) is that if your primary function is translating someone's vision and requests into outcomes, you're in danger. This is mass adoption of typing displacing secretaries. This isn't the printing press displacing writers. Pretty soon, HubSpot, Salesforce, NetSuite and every other technically powerful system with hundreds of thousands of ' #admins' around the world will become defunct.

I've been saying this for a while, but the world where 'knowing how to technically use the machine' for every piece of software is becoming fully commoditized. I keep thinking of 'this reminds me of when' but to be totally honest, I've never seen a technical demo before that left me feeling like this. Open source is going to be play a huge role and it’s comforting to see so much energy there. The best version of the future for the Generative AI landscape is to be “polyglot” with a variety of tools and companies. I don’t think, however, that the world wants a Microsoft and Google dominated AI world. It is undeniably problematic for startups to see Adobe deploying Firefly in Photoshop and Microsoft deploying AI copilots across, well just about every single of its products for consumers, businesses and developers (see the dizzying list of announcements at Microsoft’s Build conference this week). Companies like Adobe and Microsoft have, of course, massive distribution advantages. But sort of not, because the speed of deployment of AI by the Big Tech incumbents is truly something to behold. Kidding because, again and again, founders and startups find a way. This week in AI: Adobe killed all the Generative AI design startups with Firefly, and then Microsoft killed all the other Generative AI startups with its plugins and Fabric releases.
